Big mountain lion caught on Voyageurs Wolf Project trail camera in Minnesota’s St. Louis County

The Voyageurs Wolf Project reported Tuesday that one of its trail cameras in the Voyageurs National Park region recorded a video of a mountain lion on Friday, Oct. 25 in St. Louis County in northeastern Minnesota.
The big cat appeared in the Marion Lake-Franklin Lake area of the Superior National Forest south of VNP and about 15 miles east of Highway 53. Thomas Gable, VWP project lead, said the effort has roughly 350 trails cameras scattered around the VNP region.

Illinois Mixed Bag: CWD check stations, drop-off sites ready

DNR is reminding deer hunters about locations where deer can be tested for CWD free of charge. Hunters can visit participating vendors, including taxidermists and meat processors, or leave deer heads at self-serve drop-off sites. Search for locations on the DNR website or on the Hunt Illinois app.

Teal, pintail counts indicate migration into Illinois moving ‘just a tad slower’ than typical

Sharpshooters provided 127 of 308 CWD-positive deer in Illinois

Between Jan. 22 and March 29 of this year, Illinois DNR sharpshooters removed 1,744 deer from 19 counties as part of the agency’s effort to monitor and control CWD.
Testing of those deer resulted in 127 positive cases, with 88 of those coming from Grundy, Jo Daviess, LaSalle, McHenry, Ogle, and Stephenson counties – a section that has long been a “hotspot’ for CWD. The 127 positive deer taken by sharpshooters were among the 459 total positive cases in Illinois between July 1, 2023 and June 30, 2024.
