At 5 a.m. sharp on Thursday, Nov. 7, two days before the Minnesota firearms deer opener, Scott Doheny and three others will depart his New Prague home with a camper in tow for a spit of northwoods public land near Grand Rapids.
By roughly 1 p.m., and after eating breakfast at Merlin’s Family Restaurant in Princeton, they’ll crack a beer and toast another year of deer camp. Camp will already be set up. Portable deer stands, too. For Doheny, 56, and David Anderson, 49, of New Market, this year marks their 25th anniversary of hunting at the same location.
