Steve Carney: Minnesota duck season begins with a whimper, and some early archery success

My second hunt location this season was on a private slough in the heart of so-called duck country in the northwest, and the results were the same: poor. This beautiful slough was not hunted on opening weekend, so we assumed there would be a buildup of birds when we arrived.
