The Wisconsin DNR will present the Natural Resources Board (NRB) with a plan to open the Central Elk Zone in Jackson County to a hunt this fall when board members meet Wednesday, April 10, in Madison.
Elk were introduced to Jackson County in 2015 and 2016, with 23 and 50 Kentucky animals released in those years, respectively. The 2023 post-calving estimate is 160 elk. The population has experienced a three-year average increase of 15% annually.
