John Tertuliani: Tips to finding Ohio crappies after ice-out

I may someday reach it if there is such a thing as the Zen of crappie fishing. Will I live long enough to grasp the described level of calm attentiveness? Or is it the enlightenment I am really after?
For now, I accept the intuition of my actions leading to ice-out crappies. This is challenge enough at my level of modern technology.

St. Croix, Fox-Illinois rivers in Wisconsin to get new fishing regulations

March 1 marked the beginning of new panfish and game fish regulations on the St. Croix River in northwestern Wisconsin and the Fox-Illinois River in Waukesha County.
These new regulations change bag and length limits for game fish and establish a new fish refuge on the St. Croix River and another on the Fox-Illinois River.

Groups file lawsuit to halt power line across Mississippi River Wildlife Refuge

A coalition of groups filed a last-minute federal lawsuit seeking to stop plans to build the Cardinal-Hickory Creek transmission line across a Mississippi River wildlife refuge.
American Transmission Company, ITC Midwest, and Dairyland Power Cooperative, Inc., want to build a 102-mile, 345-kilovolt line linking Iowa’s Dubuque County and Wisconsin’s Dane County. The cost is expected to top half a billion dollars. The utilities say the line would improve electrical reliability across the region.

$100 reward for 200 Green Bay walleyes caught wearing red floy tags

Walleyes for Tomorrow and the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) announced a new walleye “reward tag” study for Green Bay and its major tributaries.
Green Bay and its tributaries support a world-class fishery of a robust walleye population and trophy-sized fish. Results from DNR angler creel surveys have shown that the popularity of this fishery has grown in recent years. The DNR and Walleyes for Tomorrow have seen increased angler effort targeting walleyes.

Lac du Flambeau tribe poised to spear Minocqua chain of lakes in Wisconsin

For the second consecutive year the Lac du Flambeau (LdF) tribe has indicated to the Wisconsin DNR that members intend to harvest walleyes from Oneida County’s Minocqua chain of lakes during the 2024 spearing season.
For nearly a decade the primarily stocked fishery has been catch-and-release only for walleyes as a rehab project was under way to study natural recruitment. It also was to allow time for the overall adult population to grow to more than three walleyes per acre on the chain that includes Minocqua, Lake Tomahawk, Little Lake Tomahawk, Mid and Kawaguesaga.

International Crane Foundation: Only 17.4% of Wisconsin citizens support crane hunt

Results of a sandhill crane season survey may well start a tug-of-war over whether the migratory bird should be hunted in Wisconsin, with the International Crane Foundation (ICF) saying no, but the Conservation Congress and Wisconsin Waterfowl Association saying so.
The sandhill crane hunting season discussion has been going on since at least 2012, the first year that the Conservation Congress asked citizens if they supported a sandhill crane season. The idea was supported in 65 of 72 counties, according to Rob Bohmann, congress chair.
