Dan Ladd: Some concern exists as New York goes to print sporting licenses later this year

It’s an ever-changing world in New York’s sporting community, exemplified by last month’s announcement that come this August when sporting licenses go on sale, we will be going to plain paper licenses and carcass tags. And, in more ways than one.
This certainly makes sense from an expense standpoint as the synthetic paper used in recent years is not only expensive, but is difficult to come by.

Genesee River in New York’s Allegany County has it all: Trout, smallmouth and access

You can do your own guesswork as to why the Genesee River is one of the most popular waters in DEC’s Region 9 of western New York.

Is it because it’s heavily stocked by the state, with more than 24,000 yearling trout planted every year, including over 2,700 hefty two-year-old fish? Is it because the river offers plenty of fishing access in the form of nearly 18 miles of Public Fishing Rights along its winding route from the Pennsylvania border northward?

Random Lake’s walleyes, northern pike growing well in Wisconsin’s Sheboygan County

The Sheboygan County DNR fisheries team ran a comprehensive survey on Random Lake in 2018 to gauge the fishery’s health, with the previous full survey completed in 1996.
The team also wanted to get population estimates for northern pike, muskies, and walleyes while also evaluating stocking success.

Remington’s 200-year run in Ilion, N.Y., facility concludes

Go to the official Village of Ilion (Herkimer County) website, and one of the first things you will see is the village motto, “Where tradition is preserved, while progress is achieved.”
For this village of 7,600 people, preserving that tradition will be a big challenge now that a huge chunk of Ilion’s identity is gone. Remington Arms, America’s oldest gun maker, has spent most of its 208-year existence headquartered in Ilion, but as of March 4, the iconic company’s local facility has gone dark.
