Minnesota DNR wants feedback on variety of fishing regulation changes

The Minnesota DNR has released its 2024 fishing rules and regulations questionnaire to receive feedback from the public about possible fishing regulation changes. Shannon Fisher, DNR fisheries populations monitoring and regulations manager, said the process is in its early stages and all the agency wants right now is public feedback.

Clearwater Lake: Come for the lakers, stay for the scenery in Minnesota’s Cook County

Located about 40 minutes from Grand Marais, Minn., up the Gunflint Trail, Cook County’s Clearwater Lake is a deep, cold Canadian Shield system. It’s also one of the clearest lakes in this area, and partially is located within the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness.

Sheep show sets records, raises $6.4 million for wild sheep conservation

Earlier this month, a record $6.4 million was raised in one night for wild sheep conservation at the Wild Sheep Foundation’s 47th annual convention in Reno, Nev.
During the event, a record $600,000 was paid at auction for a bighorn sheep permit issued by the state of Colorado, the highest amount for a sheep permit in history. The New Mexico Rocky Mountain bighorn sheep permit sold for another $600,000 shortly thereafter.

Minnesota DNR releases 2023 forest health report

The Minnesota DNR recently released its 2023 Forest Health Annual Report, which summarizes findings about the pests, diseases, and other issues impacting the state’s forests. This data was collected through aerial surveys of 17.3 million acres in 2023 covering every forested area across the state, as well as on-the-ground site visits.
