On the heels of the lowest bear harvest since 2007, the Pennsylvania Game Commission board was expected to approve a measure to scale back the muzzleloader portion of the season during its meeting Jan. 27.
A change included in the seasons and bag limits framework for the 2024-25 hunting reduced the October muzzleloader season for bears to three days. According to the meeting agenda, the move is designed to reduce harvest rates on female bears and promote stabilization of the population.
