Pennsylvania Game Commission board considers bear, turkey season changes

On the heels of the lowest bear harvest since 2007, the Pennsylvania Game Commission board was expected to approve a measure to scale back the muzzleloader portion of the season during its meeting Jan. 27.
A change included in the seasons and bag limits framework for the 2024-25 hunting reduced the October muzzleloader season for bears to three days. According to the meeting agenda, the move is designed to reduce harvest rates on female bears and promote stabilization of the population.

Pennsylvania Game Commission returns big-game scoring session to northeast region

Last year the Pennsylvania Game Commission held a big-game scoring session at its Northeast Regional Office for the first time in 10 years.
The amount of interest generated by the event made it clear there was no point in waiting another 10 years for the next session. On March 2, the Game Commission will hold another big-game scoring session at the region office in Dallas, and like last year, the available slots are expected to fill quickly.

Pennsylvania Mixed Bag: Great American Outdoor Show set for Feb. 3-11

The Great American Outdoor Show will be held at the Pennsylvania Farm Show Complex in Harrisburg, Pa., Feb. 3-11.
Sponsored by the National Rifle Association, the nine-day show features more than 1,000 exhibitors ranging from shooting manufacturers to outfitters to fishing boats and RVs, and archery to art covering 650,000 square feet of exhibit hall space.

Pennsylvania Fish & Boat Commission offering grants for programs that promote fishing, boating

Organizations that promote fishing or boating participation through education or experiential programs may be eligible for funding from the Pennsylvania Fish & Boat Commission.
The agency is seeking qualified recipients for grants of up to $25,000 for projects aimed at recruiting, retaining, or reactivating anglers or boaters. Awards will be made from the R3 Grant Program and must be used to reimburse eligible expenses incurred July 1, 2024, to June 30, 2025.
