Cold, snowy days don’t bother snow geese migrating through Pennsylvania

A fresh, fluffy snow and a single-digit morning temperature, along with a new brace aiding my worse-than-thought injured right knee, prompted a short hike from my parked truck last week to a hillside spot for a flintlock hunt during a season that remains open in my home area of Pennsylvania.
A place along an old logging road that held numerous deer tracks was my choice to clean the ground among a tight group of poplar trees and plop my backside to the frozen earth and watch for any passing whitetails.

Steve Sarley: Recent Chicago Bulls’ ceremony a sad but nice reminder of Jerry Krause’s love of fishing

The Chicago Bulls held a ceremony on Jan. 12 to establish their Ring of Honor. The Ring’s purpose is to honor players and management members who have contributed to the Bulls’ greatness over their history.
It was an enjoyable event, and it was good to see so many of the people who have been with the team through its history. I was very disheartened to watch as a group of fans booed when former General Manager Jerry Krause was introduced.

Vic Attardo: Small New York lakes produce lots of winter largemouths

The lakes in central New York were locked and loaded. Traveling around from Otsego to Canadarago, even to the still waters of the Erie Canal and every little farm pond in-between, we found the ice thickness at 15 to 17 inches. It took a deep drill to break through the snow and frozen crust to reach fishable water underneath. As many an ice fisherman knows and complains, February is a tough month to pull fish from the frozen sheet.
Then could anyone explain how myself and New York Master Guide John Wainwright had one of our best days on the ice amid these negative conditions?
