Minnesota DNR seeking public input on early teal hunt, waterfowl season splits through upcoming survey

The Minnesota DNR is preparing to roll out a general waterfowl-hunter survey. It’s an effort to collect information on a range of topics, most notably hunter opinions on an early September teal season and the state’s three-tier hunting-zone system.
The agency, which conducts such surveys roughly every three years, is slated to mail 4,000 survey postcards this week to randomly selected waterfowl hunters who purchased state duck stamps last year.

Minnesota DNR talks next steps in the process after closure of Upper Sioux Agency State Park next month

The Minnesota DNR announced last week that it permanently will close Upper Sioux Agency State Park to the public on Friday, Feb. 16. The closure is one of the final steps in transferring the park to the Upper Sioux Community.
The DNR hosted a press conference at 9:30 a.m. on Jan. 10 to discuss the closure as well as next steps in the process. Sarah Strommen, DNR commissioner, said the DNR plans to complete the transfer to the Upper Sioux Community by mid-March 2024.

Early and late ice are great times to target pike on Iowa’s Great Lakes

When Chad Loreth moved to the Iowa Great Lakes area in 2005, he knew he was coming to a great year-round fishery.
Loreth has enjoyed helping anglers, both veteran and novice, young and old, enjoy the fishery through his guide service, Iowa Great Lakes Outdoors, Inc. As much as he likes open water fishing, it’s chasing fish on the ice that he relishes the most. What Loreth has found is that the Iowa Great Lakes fishery has an untapped resource when it comes to fishing northern pike through the ice.
