Public access provides unique opportunity in a managed forest in the Adirondacks

The state-owned public lands that contrive the Adirondack Forest Preserve are not managed for timber. What’s known as the “Forever Wild” clause of the state Constitution prohibits timber harvesting on these lands, including Catskill Forest Preserve Lands. The Adirondacks do remain appealing to the hunter who appreciates the challenge and especially the beauty they offer. But unless you’re hunting private lands – including conservation easements – your chances of doing so in a young forest habitat situation are quite slim.
