Trail-camera traps: Try these three early-season, off-the-path ideas

Let the other bowhunters hang their cameras along field edges and access roads. If you want to find pressured bucks during the early part of the bow season, it’s better to hang your cameras in areas where bucks might stage, or bed, or position your cameras on season-long pinch points. When it comes to trail camera placement, hunters often lean hard on the usual suspects. Field and food plot edges are obvious spots. Logging or access roads that wind their way through the woods also make the list. Most hunters tend to place cameras in places where they know bucks will travel, but that’s seeking confirmation bias and not fresh recon.
While it’s fun to get plenty of images in the only soybean field in the section, if you want actionable intel, it’s often better to use your cameras to scout. Following are three locations all bowhunters should consider hanging cameras to truly learn about buck behavior.
