Brady Oberg Legacy Foundation gets vets on the water

I recently had the pleasure of quarterbacking a fishing event for 10 fellow veterans near Battle Lake, Minn. I managed to get a group of fishing buddies together to assist, and my guiding group consisted of Mike Jordahl, Jim Merickel, Dan Olson, and Jay Miller – all Otter Tail County residents and awesome anglers.
Our mission was to provide a morning of fishing for veterans, sponsored by the Brady Oberg Legacy Foundation. This foundation was established by a group of people who loved Brady, grieved for him, and wanted to keep his personal tragedy from happening to others.

Number of waterfowl hunters still declining: What are the effects of fewer hunters?

As Minnesota hunters prepare to take to the marshes, lakes, and fields for Saturday’s regular duck opener, a national waterfowl conservation and hunting group is sounding the alarm on the continued decline of North American waterfowl hunters and what it means for the future of habitat conservation.
The Delta Waterfowl Foundation, based in Bismarck, N.D., reports fewer people hunted waterfowl last year in North America than during any season in the past 60 years. That analysis comes from hunter-participation statistics from both the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the Canadian Wildlife Service.

Located just south of Deerwood, this 2,329-acre lake is a popular destination for both anglers and recreational users. Its clear water and resort industry attract countless vacationers each year, while its fish-catching opportunities draw plenty of anglers.

The ‘get ‘er done’ force that was Bob Kerans: Remembering Illinois Outdoor News’ Person of the Year

He was selected as our 2023 “Outdoor Person of the Year,” so early this spring I drove to his home in Decatur, Ill., to snap a photo of Bob Kerans holding his award.
His wife Lolly pleasantly answered the door and advised, “He’s back in his room.”
His room, of course, was part office, part shrine to fishing and every other outdoor endeavor that made us all appreciate Bob. His knowledge was endless, his passion clear. To be honest, he probably deserved to be “Outdoors Person of the Century.”
