Seven charged in Illinois turkey poaching case

Details of the turkey poaching case in Madison County that involved AR-style rifles equipped with thermal imaging scopes and suppressors were released by DNR.
The agency reports that the 20 turkeys taken illegally were taken by out-of-state hunters in the Alton-Wood River area in Madison County. DNR’s Office of Law Enforcement initiated an investigation in March 2022 after dead turkeys were found on an unnamed number of properties.

Illinois’ Auriel Fournier elected first vice president of Wilson Ornithological Society

Auriel Fournier, a waterfowl ecologist at the Illinois Natural History Survey and director of the Forbes biological station, has been elected first vice president of the Wilson Ornithological Society (WOS), an international scientific society comprising professional and amateur ornithologists interested in the research, teaching, and conservation of birds. She will serve as first vice president for two years before serving as president in 2025.

Sampling of Illinois’ Ramsey Lake points to ‘big’ potential

Illinois DNR biologists are expecting big things at Ramsey Lake in coming years – big bass, to be specific.
“The 2021 and 2022 surveys both collected many bass in the 9- to 14-inch range and the size structure of the bass population could improve in the coming years if these smaller fish in the continue to grow,” a report following the 2022 survey noted.
