We were after walleyes, no question about it. While we did catch one keeper, the real story that day were the bay’s well reputed smallmouth bass. They hit jigs tipped with fatheads, crawlers or plastics. Didn’t matter the bait, those fish hit mostly willingly. I don’t know how many. We didn’t count nor measure, but they were healthy fish that did their all in maintaining the smallmouth’s reputation for battling anglers.
