The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources announced on May 3 that a population of a rare parasitic plant was rediscovered on the dunes overlooking Lake Michigan in Manitowoc County. A trained volunteer for the Rare Plant Monitoring Program spotted the clustered broomrape (Orobanche fasciculata), which has not been seen in over 44 years.
House Bill 3677 – it is designed to make the license renewal process easier while also continuing to generate revenue for DNR’s conservation efforts – would save Illinois anglers and hunters the hassle of having to renew their licenses annually.

During the recently-completed hunt, which covered two weekends, youth hunters harvested a total of 1,309 birds. That was up slightly from 2022, when 1,258 turkeys were taken. The record total was set in 2020, when 1,733 turkeys were harvested.
All told, over the past five years, youth hunters have averaged a harvest of 1,398 turkeys.
