MAY 13: Paddle and “bird” Gallagher Marsh through the Natural Resources Foundation (NRF) tours, supported by Sandhill Wildlife Area, 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Join Sandhill’s educator, Quinn Brownell, and local bird expert Art Stevenson on Sandhill Wildlife Area’s Gallagher Marsh, a wetland complex composed of sedge meadow and vegetation that provides habitat to a variety of migratory and resident species. Bring a canoe or kayak and PFD along with snacks and lots of water. This trip will be difficult with there being no boat launches in Sandhill. Meet in the Sandhill Outdoor Skills Center. Class is limited to 15 participants. Registration is required; there is a $40 registration fee per person. Registration is posted on the NRF website at wisconservation.org/field-trips. MAY 20: Sandhill Wildlife Area Outdoor Skill Center wild edibles hunt, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., join botanist Jessica Prindiville on a search for all the wild edibles Sandhill has to offer. She will lead a short classroom discussion to learn the basics, followed by a guided hike to look for a potential lunch. But bring a lunch, water bottle and bug spray. Class is limited to 25 participants. Registration is required before May 17, along with a $10 registration fee.
