National report: hunting license sales return to pre-COVID levels

Overall, hunting license sales decreased by approximately 3.1% in 2022 compared to 2021. Coincidentally, resident and nonresident license sales each were also down 3.1%.
Just six of 46 states saw an overall increase in the number of licenses sold in 2022 compared to 2021. License sales were down overall in each of the four geographical regions (Northeast, Southeast, Midwest and West), with percentages ranging from -2.4 to -4.8%.

Longtime outdoor leader Bill Pike earns New York Outdoor News Person of the Year honor

The sporting community is full of people who have spent much of their lives going the extra mile to promote the virtues of their beloved activities such as hunting, fishing, trapping and shooting. Now at age 83, Bill Pike, of Hartford, in Washington County, is a prime example of such a person, and he is the New York Outdoor News 2023 Person of the Year.

The Student Angler Federation’s Iowa bass fishing state championship coming to the Okobojis

The Bass Federation’s (TBF) Student Angler Federation (SAF) Iowa state championship is scheduled for May 20 on the Okoboji Chain of Lakes. The Student Angler Federation gives kids an opportunity to fish competitively by promoting the formation of fishing clubs and outdoor activities within schools.
There will be both Junior (grades 3-8) and High School (grades 9-12) categories at the Iowa state championship. They will be trying to earn a qualifying spot for the Junior World Championships or the High School National Championships, respectively.
