Dave Pauly’s dedication to sharptails – “firebirds,” he affectionately calls them – hasn’t diminished in the nine years since his DNR retirement. In fact, he’s more devoted particularly to the birds these days, expending time and energy and using his accumulated knowledge in leading the charge to create habitat for a wildlife species – a “species of greatest conservation need” in Minnesota – that continues to inspire and fascinate him.
