Deadline for Minnesota’s bear hunt lottery applications is May 5

Prospective bear hunters in have until May 5 to apply for a bear hunting license from the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources. Applications for the 2023 season can be submitted online, at any license agent or by telephone at 888-665-4236.
A total of 4,035 licenses are available in 14 permit areas for the season, which opens Friday, Sept. 1, and closes Sunday, Oct. 15.

Elk visionary Rawley Cogan named Pennsylvania Outdoor News’ Person of the Year

Rawley Cogan’s first assignment with the Pennsylvania Game Commission, in 1982, was to help research why the state’s elk population was failing to thrive.

Delta Waterfowl expands predator management program

Even though deep snowdrifts still blanket the northern prairie landscape where more than half of North America’s ducks nest, Delta Waterfowl has begun the organization’s annual Predator Management Program field work.
For the 2023 waterfowl-nesting season, Delta will expand predator management to 31 sites – 25 in North Dakota, and three each in Manitoba and Saskatchewan.

Wisconsin’s bobcats faring well, license sales up

Wisconsin’s bobcat population has grown steadily this century, expanding its range and numbers while triggering explosive interest among hunters and trappers.
In response, the DNR issued 3,645 bobcat tags in 2022, the highest total in more than 30 years, and 22 times more than the 165 tags the agency issued in 2012.
