Take a kid into the turkey woods this spring and get the most out of the hunt

There’s more to taking a youth turkey hunting than pulling the trigger on a gobbler. Piatt says to involve the youth in all aspects of the hunt and appreciate everything about it, even when the action is slow. (Photo by Dan Ladd)
Some of my most memorable spring gobbler hunts occurred when I didn’t even have a shotgun in my hands. There’s no better feeling than taking a youngster or a non-hunting adult afield and introducing them to our obsession. And if they’re fortunate enough to harvest a bird, it’s even better. Too, watching the hunt through their eyes may even re-energize your passion for spring gobbler hunting.
