Minnesota DNR seeks public input on proposal to expand elk zone

The elk population has remained above goal for the three different zones in Minnesota. Zones 20 and 30 are connected to each other and near the Canadian border, while the Grygla herd is located farther south and east. The Minnesota DNR is proposing to expand Zone 20 by a few miles to allow for more room for elk hunters. (Photo courtesy of Jason Wollin/Minnesota DNR)
The Minnesota DNR is seeking public input on a proposal to expand the boundaries of elk Zone 20 by about six miles to the west and three miles to the south. This zone is near Lancaster, near the Canadian border.  Minnesotans may provide input on the proposal until March 30 by contacting Jason Wollin, DNR Karlstad-area wildlife manager. Comments also may be submitted to Barb Keller, the DNR’s big-game program supervisor.
