Scarcity of deer in Minnesota means rules need adjustment

While plenty of bowhunters were successful during last year’s season, Carney believes deer numbers are down in much of the state due to factors such as weather (severe winters), wolves, and even suburban home developments. I believe the deer aren’t there to begin with. I have dozens of contacts throughout the state, and I often heard, especially from friends in northern Minnesota, that groups of six to 12 hunters in a party would harvest one or two deer during two weekends of the firearms season. Everyone I talked to said they saw more wolves than they did deer.
