First hunt a treat for son – and his dad

As parents we often get caught up in school activities and any extra curricular activities for our children. This seems to take us over and we forget about what is important to us. We forget to make sure that we get our kids outdoors to enjoy what is around us.

With hunting season just around the corner, we need to include our youth in the enjoyment of the field – or out on the water. It is never too early to start our kids down the path of hunting or fishing.

I had the pleasure to take my son on his first dove hunt last season and it was a magical event that I will never forget.  There were anxieties about taking him into the field, but those all melted away as I watched him take in all the sights and sounds of the field for a hunt.

That memory will stick with him forever as I was able to experience the same thing with my father when I was a child. I can still see and hear all the special sights and sounds that made that day extremely special to me and I know that my son’s first experience in the field will last forever in his mind.
