Duck, goose hunting drawings Aug. 19

A pair of lottery drawings will be held on Saturday, Aug. 19 for those wanting to hunt ducks and geese on Ohio state lakes.

Drawings for six blinds at southwest Ohio’s Spring Valley and seven blinds at Clark Lake Wildlife Areas will start promptly at 8 a.m. at the Wildlife District Five Office, 1076 Old Springfield Pike, Xenia. The office will open at 7:30 a.m. The drawing for 72 blinds at Mercer Wildlife Area will open for applications at 7:15 a.m., with the drawing at 8 a.m. at Mercer Wildlife Area, 6615 State Route 703, Celina, 45822.

Also on Saturday, Aug. 19, a drawing will be held for blinds at northeast Ohio’s Mosquito Creek Lake. Registration will begin at 8 a.m. at the ODNR Division of Wildlife’s Mosquito Creek Headquarters, located at 8303 North Park Avenue in North Bloomfield. The drawing will take place promptly at 9 a.m.

Interested applicants must appear in person with proof of a 2017 Ohio hunting license, Ohio wetlands stamp endorsement in the applicant’s name, a signed 2016 or 2017 federal duck stamp, and a current Harvest Information Program (HIP) certification prior to the drawing. HIP certification is free and available by calling 1-877-HIP-OHIO. For more information on HIP, go to http://www.fws.gov/hip/.

Each hunter may apply for only one duck blind permit, and applying or drawing for another hunter is not allowed. Lottery winners have 45 days to construct their blinds, and all blinds must be dismantled by March 15, 2018.
