Metro Area Fishing Report – April 19th, 2013

While the shorelines, channels, and dock areas have started to open there’s still a lot of ice on the main portion of all lakes. At this point, you can’t get on the ice and there’s too much of it to fish open water.

You could still get on some lakes early this week, but the shorelines on most have now pulled away far enough to prevent access. The only fishing reports worth noting again this week are from Pools 2 and 4 on the Mississippi River. The walleye bite has slowed a bit, although the poor weather conditions have limited the number of people fishing.

While the shorelines have pulled away and accesses have started to open, ice remains on all lakes. There hasn’t been anyone fishing over the past week as anglers wait patiently for open-water options to develop.

At this point, anglers are getting on the ice where they can. The shorelines on most lakes have opened beyond repair limiting ice fishing options. Unfortunately, there’s still a lot of main-lake ice that’s showing no signs of melting.
