Northern Lower Peninsula Fishing Report – August 31st, 2012
A few steelhead have been caught in deep water on Mullett Lake, and a couple perch have been caught in 12 feet of water. Perch fishing should improve as the water cools. Walleye fishing has been good on Burt Lake, with bottom bouncers and crawlers taking fish in 30 to 35 feet of water. Early goose season should be good.

Traverse City Area
Salmon fishing has been good in East and West Grand Traverse Bays. Anglers are catching fish in 140 feet of water 65 feet down on spoons and flies and flashers. Smallmouth bass fishing also has been good in the bays in 20 to 25 feet of water. Drop-shot rigs with rubber worms are producing good results. Bluegill fishing has been good on Spider and Arbutus lakes in 15 to 18 feet of water.

A few crappies have been caught at the east end of Lake Cadillac. Minnows have produced the best results. A couple walleyes have been caught along the weeds in Lake Mitchell. The early goose season should be pretty good.

Higgins Lake Area
Trollers and joggers are catching lake trout on Higgins Lake. Try 85 feet of water off the RAM Center and 100 feet of water in front of Higgins Lake Sport & Tackle. Smallmouth bass are hitting along the island and at the south end of the lake. A few perch are being caught, too.

Hubbard Lake Area
Walleye fishing has been productive on Hubbard Lake. Anglers fishing with crawlers in 50 feet of water report a good bite. Good numbers of smallies measuring 14 to 19 inches have been caught. Tube jigs and crawlers have been producing fish in 5 to 15 feet of water. Perch fishing has been slow. The early goose season should be very good.

Lake trout fishing has been pretty good in Lake Huron at Alpena and several salmon have been caught off Rogers City and Presque Isle. Find the thermocline and find the fish. A few salmon are jumping in the Thunder Bay River, and the fall migration should improve as water temps fall.

Panfish and pike fishing has been pretty good on Fletcher Pond. A fair number of bass have been caught, too. Fishing pressure has been light. The early goose season should be good, with a fair number of birds in the area.
