Coyote kills pet poodle in NYC suburb

Rye, N.Y. (AP) — Police say a coyote has killed a pet poodle on
the grounds of a retirement home in the New York City suburbs.

Rye police Commissioner William Connors said Friday that the
poodle was tied up but left alone in a yard Wednesday night by an
elderly resident at The Osborn retirement community.

Connors says said someone called police about a possible coyote
attack. Officers arrived to find the dog’s carcass and see a coyote
running off.

He said the owner did not see the attack.

The commissioner said residents of Rye, 21 miles northeast of
New York City, are reporting more and more coyote sightings,
including some aggressive behavior toward dogs.

Coyotes usually weigh 25 to 50 pounds. Miniature poodles are
usually between 12 and 18 pounds.
