Several deer hunters who’ve read the premiere issue of Illinois
Outdoor News were surprised to learn via one of our front page
stories that firearm deer hunting has been expanded to one-half
hour past sunset.
Apparently, DNR hasn’t done a very good job of getting the word
out.
A few hunters directed doubting e-mails to me, just to
double-check my information.
Indeed, House Bill 320, which allows the extra 30 minutes, was
signed into law in late August. Readers have reported trying to
find information about the new law on DNR’s Web site – with no
luck. And the only Google evidence of news coverage I can find is a
brief written by Jeff Lampe of the Peoria Journal Star back in
September.
For those wanting more than our word, the state Web site that
details the passing of the law can be found at the Illinois General Assembly site
