Grand Rapids, Minn. The Grand Rapids DNR fisheries office has scheduled two public informational meetings to gather input on walleye regulation proposals for 10 lakes in Itasca County

Lakes being considered are Swan, Trout (near Coleraine),
Splithand, Moose, Island (near Northome), Bowstring, Sand, Jessie,
Round (near Squaw Lake), and Deer/Battle/Pickerel (near Effie). The
proposed regulation on each lake is a 17- to 26-inch protected
slot, with one walleye over 26 inches in possession. The goal is to
increase angler catch rates and enhance the number of naturally
reproduced fish.

The first meeting is Sept. 20, at 7 p.m. at the Minnesota
Interagency Fire Center in Grand Rapids. The second will be held
Sept. 21 at 7 p.m. at the Squaw Lake Community Center in Squaw
Lake. An additional open house meeting will be held at DNR
headquarters in St. Paul on Sept. 27, from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
