St. Paul Ospreys have made a significant comeback in Minnesota, after a decline in numbers due to the use of pesticides like DDT and habitat loss. Minnesotans are now being asked to help in the first statewide osprey survey.

Biologists say the three mussels are believed to be declining significantly throughout their range. All three are fairly high priorities for listing, according to the USFWS. St. Paul The Minnesota DNR has announced that another eight counties will be removed from the list of those with open-burning restrictions because of green-up.

Burning restrictions were lifted last week in Douglas, Grant, Pope, and Stevens counties, and early this week for Anoka, Chisago, Isanti, and Sherburne counties. Burning restrictions remain in effect for several counties. Redwood Falls, Minn. Minnesota DNR Conservation Officer Greg Abraham has a word of advice for off-road vehicle operators and horse riders: Stay out of state wildlife management areas.

Abraham reports that while it’s illegal to operate motorized vehicles in WMAs, there has been an increasing number of complaints concerning their operation in both Cedar Rock and Tiger Lake WMAs near Redwood Falls.
