Crookston, Minn. Citizens are asked to weigh in on a proposal that would remove the Otter Tail Power Dam on the Red Lake River at Crookston, a measure that would improve safety and fish passage on the river, according to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Servic

The proposal is to remove the dam and construct a rock rapids upstream to provide for fish passage while maintaining much of the pool that now exists behind the dam. St. Paul Pheasants Forever has announced the sale of Hoff’s Slough to the Minnesota DNR; PF purchased the 480-acre Swift County parcel from the Minnesota Waterfowl Association to ensure that the land may be used for public hunting.

The DNR’s purchase of the land means Hoff’s Slough will become part of the Danvers Wildlife Management Area likely by this fall. The combined area will contain nearly 3,000 acres of permanently protected wildlife habitat open to the public. Hoff’s Slough features a major restored wetland and is key to the area’s overall wetland management,
