State ag officials announced last week that the National
Veterinary Services Laboratory in Ames, Iowa, verified that a
51/2-year-old buck shot at Buckhorn Flats Game Farm in Almond,
Wis., during a paid hunt in October, had CWD. Six other deer on the
preserve have tested positive. A state agency ordered all the
farm’s animals euthanized for testing, but the farm’s owner, Stan
Hall, has appealed the order.
So far, 15 farm-raised animals in Wisconsin have tested positive
for the disease on four farms. One was an elk; the rest were
deer.
