Grand Rapids, Minn. Food plots, like other game management habitat tools, are fine when it comes to deer, according to Mark Johnson, executive director for the Minnesota Deer Hunters Association. Recreational feeding of deer is not.

Johnson and the MDHA are asking Minnesotans to refrain from deer feeding because of concerns about chronic wasting disease. Grand Rapids, Minn. The Ruffed Grouse Society (RGS) and Boise Cascade Corporation are working together to build a walking trail system through 500 acres of forestland owned by the company in the Bear River Demonstration Forest.

The trails traverse forests managed to provide timber and as wildlife habitat. Interpretative signs will explain how forest management practices benefit various wildlife species. The trails will be gated and mowed. Boise is a corporate partner of RGS and recently made a financial donation to the organization.
