Rochester, Minn. The Minnesota DNR has scheduled a May 24 public meeting to coincide with a 30-day comment period on a proposed off-highway vehicle plan for southeastern Minnesota.

The meeting will be held from 5-8 p.m. at the Heintz Center on College View Drive Southeast in Rochester. Rochester, Minn. State and federal officials hope to save an endangered mussel in the Mississippi River and in the process, control the zebra mussel that’s infested the river.

Officials have outlined efforts to help the endangered Higgens’ eye pearlymussel, which once was common on the river from the Twin Cities to Missouri. Pierre, S.D. Rising water on the Missouri River is affecting boat ramps and state recreation areas on Lake Francis Case.

Ramps at several areas have been closed and at least two campgrounds have been affected by floodwaters, but, barring significant rainfall, levels should now subside. For more information on ramp closures, see the South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks web site at www.state.sd.us/gfp.
