Washington, D.C. The world’s most endangered crane would take to the skies over the eastern U.S. under a plan proposed by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to re-introduce a wild population of whooping cranes that would migrate between Wisconsin and Flo

Ultralight aircraft would be used to teach young whoopers the migration route, should the proposed rule and draft environmental assessment be approved by the USFWS and its state partners. The birds would leave from Necedah National Wildlife Refuge in Wisconsin and fly to Chassahowitzka NWR in central Florida. Currently, there are about 250 whooping cranes

St. Paul Minnesota’s state forest campgrounds had the highest use in history during the 2000 camping season, says the DNR.

Attendance was about 100,500 campers, generating about $260,000 in receipts from camping fees, said Steve Simmer, DNR forest recreation specialist. State forest campgrounds offer more than 1,000 sites at 46 locations within the state’s 58 state forests. They’re considered more primitive than those sites at state park locations.
