Upper Peninsula Fishing Report - April 12th, 2013

Pickford Area

Perch fishing has been good on Lake Huron at Cedarville, where there was still about two feet of ice last week. Steelhead fishing has been slow to get started. There are a few turkeys in the area.

Drummond Island Area

There was still over two feet of ice around Drummond Island, but perch fishing has been a little slow and fishing pressure has been light.

Curtis Area

There was still a couple feet of ice on Manistique Lakes last week. A few bluegills have been caught, but perch and fishermen have been scarce.

Garden Area

A few perch have been caught in Garden Bay where there was still 3 feet of ice last week. A few steelhead have been caught in the Manistique River.

Escanaba Area

Ice was still in good shape on Little Bay de Noc. Perch fishing has been good east of the Kippling boat launch, north of Hunter’s Point in 35 to 50 feet of water. Lots of 7- to 12-inch fish have been caught. There was a little snow in the woods, but none on the ice.

Menominee Area

There was still ice on Shakey Lakes, but it was starting to break up last week. Fishing pressure has been light. Turkey season should be decent. There are good numbers of birds in the area.

Bergland Area

Perch fishing has been good on Lake Gogebic, where there was still 2 feet of ice last week. The best action has been in 20 to 22 feet of water on wigglers. Lake conditions have improved, with travel being best early in the day, even with ATVs. Snow and slush have settled down nicely.

Iron River Area

There was still a couple feet of ice on inland lakes in Iron County last week. Decent numbers of panfish and a few whitefish have been caught on Chicagon Lake, but fishing pressure has been light. The snow is almost gone. Spring turkey season should be pretty good.
