Anglers are catching steelhead in good numbers on the larger streams.

The lake’s walleye population is completely maintained through natural reproduction. An abundance of prime spawning habitat and a strong forage base in the way of yellow perch allow its walleyes to thrive.

On Mississippi River Pool No. 4, we have an excellent yellow perch bite every spring, and you don’t need a boat to access this bite.

Ice fishing has ended in southern Michigan, but continues in the northern Lower Peninsula and Upper Peninsula.

Walleyes in early stages of river spawn runs. On inland waters, crappies are the name of the game.

Bluegills and pumpkinseeds are also excellent target species here.

The lake and the mood of the fish can determine what will work best.

Many waters in the southern portion of the lower peninsula are transitioning to open water due to warmer temperatures. Ice fishing is still being conducted in the northern portions of the state at this time.

Accesses deteriorating, so be careful if you’re looking to get out on what’s left of the ice. Jumbo perch are still biting – here’s where.
