September Canada goose season set to help control Vermont’s resident Canada goose population prior to the arrival of species migrating south from Canada.

With the two males killed Monday, it was the farthest grizzly bears have been seen east of the Rocky Mountain Front in more than a century.

Some 27,120 breeding adults have returned from as far away as California and the Gulf Coast to raise their chicks. That’s down about 6,600 birds from last year, but still is among the highest recorded

The rule impacts grizzly bears in Grand Teton and Yellowstone national parks and the 20 million acre ecosystem, which includes Idaho, Montana and Wyoming.

The hope is that it will create enough “buzz” to save the insects by documenting the relationship between specific bees and flowers.
