Lake Champlain is a well-known destination for summer bass and winter walleyes, pike and panfish. But not so well-known is a virtually untapped, late fall, cold-water fishery for landlocked Atlantic salmon, steelhead, brown trout and

Warm temperatures brought out more anglers looking to get that one last fishing trip in. Those targeting the inland lakes did manage to catch a few bass, pike, walleye and perch and other panfish, including

Steelhead, walleye and perch bite continues to be strong. And some hefty muskies have been reported so far this fall.

With good flow (finally) in Erie-area tributary streams, steelhead were on the move and fishing turned on in recent weeks. And an excellent fall smallmouth bite was reported on the state’s bigger rivers.
It wasn’t long before I realized that I had once again made a mistake in lining up overnight accommodations.

As water temps continue to fall, where walleyes and perch in particular are biting.

Fishing is fantastic in the St. Mary’s River for both pink and Atlantic salmon.

You will catch plenty of walleyes from Pokegama, too. They come in a wide range of sizes, and the potential for trophy-caliber fish exists.
