Crappie, bass bites emerging in shallower waters.

The biggest news has been some decent smallmouth bass, yellow perch, and northern pike action.

Buffalo Harbor is a main launching point for boaters heading to nearby smallmouth bass and early season walleye hot spots.

Big Darby is a smallmouth bass haven. And private and public interests do what they can to get the word out concerning the value and vulnerability of Big Darby as a public resource.

The yellow perch bite, in particular, is going strong in a number of locations.

Although the lake is just 575 acres in size, anglers throughout central Minnesota are aware of its ability to produce walleyes and crappies year after year.

As of 2021, the saugeye population has rebounded once again and these hybrids are now back in good numbers.

Lots of reports of steelheads being caught.
