Dozens of Iowa athletes from North Scott, Maquoketa, Pleasant Valley, Pella, Pella Christian, Ankeny Centennial, Gilbert, Solon, Oskaloosa and Easton Valley were frequent visitors to the awards podium at the Scholastic Action Sports Program (SASP) and the Scholastic Clay Target Program (SCTP) National Team Championships, July 8-15 at the Cardinal Shooting Center in Marengo, Ohio.
Held July 8-15 at the Cardinal Shooting Center, more than 2,300 athletes representing 29 states competed in the shooting disciplines of trap, skeet and sporting clays.
In the first 24 hours of open registration for the July 8-15 championships, 132 teams from 23 different states registered over 2,000 athletes.
The state closed the World Shooting and Recreation Complex in
Sparta last year due to the ongoing state budget issues. While it has
managed to keep the Grand American trapshooting championships, news has
come that at least one other popular event is leaving.
The SSSF has signed a three-year agreement with the Cardinal Shooting Center to hold its annual July championships from 2017-2019.
