Windy weather has put a damper on hunting and fishing across many areas of the state. But when the wind settles down, the action has been pretty good.

A few lake trout were showing up near shore on Lake Michigan and being caught in Michigan City Harbor by trollers and casters but not many were out fishing.

Smallmouth, Steelhead, walleye and perch there for the taking on Lake Erie. On inland waters, crappies and saugeyes are moving into their fall patterns.

You cannot deny the great fall fishing action that can be found on this impoundment. A number of species call it home, but it is best known for its striper fishing.

Long-awaited rainfall in the northwest corner of the state finally arrived in late October, to the delight of steelheaders.

Water temps are in the 40s across a good stretch of the state. What might that mean for the fishing bite?

Koronis is an excellent walleye lake, panfish are abundant and good-sized, it produces quality northern pike, and its bass population – smallmouths and largemouths – is a big draw for local and visiting anglers alike.

With warmer weather expected to arrive this week, anglers who kept their boats out should have at least one more week of open water fishing opportunities.
