When I see minnows under attack, I’ll stop my boat and fan-cast the immediate area. Almost always you’ll tangle with whatever is feeding on the small minnows.

The cupboard isn’t completely bare on the walleye front these days, but there’s no question that this Cass County lake is now more recognized for its panfish- and bass-fishing opportunities.

Multi-species fishing is the way to go when various conditions conspire against you on the water.

Despite minimal natural reproduction, a strong walleye population has come to be expected in Pike.

It’s not just straight under the boat anymore.

Unstable weather pattern of late, but hasn’t seemed to impact fishing much. Catching ‘gills, crappies, bass and a few northerns. Here’s when and where.

Madison is a highly monitored lake by the DNR, managed primarily for its panfish and walleyes. But its northern pike and largemouth bass are worth noting as well.

It’s hard to believe it continues to put out walleyes given all the winter pressure and now the open-water pressure.
