Round also supports a strong crappie population of both the black and white varieties, surging white bass numbers, along with some bonus northern pike and channel catfish.
Good walleye bite going on numerous area lakes, still in fairly shallow water. Jigs and minnows and live-bait rigs, along with crawlers and minnows working well. Pretty much all species going strong.
Long’s ability to naturally produce walleyes is exceptional – so good, in fact, that the DNR hasn’t stocked the lake with walleyes since 2018.
This writer has had the most success the past two weeks when using small sucker minnows attached to 1⁄16-ounce jigs.
There’s a lot of low to mid 60-degree water temperatures being reported and that seems to have allowed those shallow walleye and panfish bites to hang in there for another week.
These areas include neck-downs, in and around bridges and where different tributaries and creeks empty into lakes.
A couple of ways to hook a minnow on a jig that will allow you to catch more walleyes.
