There was a big transition to nightime walleye and crappie activity over the past week.

The morning and evening hours are best, but daytime walleye action hasn’t been that bad in many areas. It seems a combination of jigging spoons and deadsticks with minnows are both producing walleyes.

Crappies and bluegills seem to be biting more consistently than walleyes in areas people have been fishing to the north.

There will be plenty of lakes to walk on and fish this weekend, but it is early and ice depths really vary from lake to lake and one spot to the next so check it as you go.

With the exception of some diehard muskie and walleye fishing activity, there wasn’t much to report from anglers across the state this week.

The few people still fishing are doing well, mostly for walleyes and muskies at this point.
