Heavy fishing activity was observed on this fishery this week. Anglers targeting whitefish had the best success fishing off the drop-offs of Larson’s Reef in around 60 to 85 feet of water using plastic jigs.
The panfish are snapping and the bite is good.
Pity the poor burbot. Too long scorned and dismissed, unlovely and unloved. At best an occasional nuisance while pursuing “real” fish like the mighty walleye. At worst, lumped in with carp and other “rough fish”

Anglers here reported a steady coho salmon bite this past week along with large schools of smelt and cisco throughout the bay.

Walleye season closed on Sunday around our neck of the woods (Brainerd Lakes area), and all Minnesota inland waters so the focus now shifts to panfish, perch, eelpout and now bass!
