KETCHIKAN, Alaska — Federal and state officials have announced that this year’s wolf harvest quota on Prince of Wales Island is more than four times what it was last year. The Ketchikan Daily News reports
The number of duck-hunting wetlands in North Dakota is down about 40 percent from last year, to the lowest level in nine years, according to the Game and Fish Department’s annual fall wetland survey.
Wisconsin, Pennsylvania and Michigan have seen gains in wild bird populations for 2017, while Minnesota showed a decrease in population.
Hunters and trappers may apply for 2017-18 bobcat permits through Sept. 30.
While only a relative handful of sportsmen hunt them, they offer a unique upland opportunity to Michigan bird hunters.
All things considered, it’s shaping up to be a potentially good year for bear hunters.
The DNR will be doing weekly updates throughout the archery season.
Largest animal, taken on the last day of the hunt, had antler spread of 73 inches.
“We’ve collared a random sample of deer and coyotes, so the collars don’t indicate anything about the animals’ health or suitability for harvest.”
