Week/weekend recap and where things are on fisheries right now …

As we thin down the month of May and dip our toes into early June, before the calendar actually proclaims the start of summer, a lot of Pennsylvania lakes should experience some great post-spawn fishing

The most pressured fish probably, though, is largemouth and smallmouth bass.

Walleyes were reportedly biting in Pymatuning and Shenango reservoirs, and lakes Kahle, Arthur, Beltzville, Blue Marsh, Frances Slocum, Glendale and Gordon.

With the opening of the walleye season looming, excitement mounts. Look for fish up shallow, and consider jigging. And don’t forget the panfish.

Temperature can be an important word this time of year – both water temperature and air temperature. Both can play a role in fishing success. Springtime fishing and temperature oftentimes go hand-in-hand.

For crappies, once in the bay or canal, fan-cast the area with extra-long casts until you make contact with the fish.

It finally sounds as if air temperatures are going to warm and stay that way through this weekend and that should bode well for crappie and walleye anglers alike for this weekend’s fishing opener.
